The biggest nuisance with heating oil can be what to do if you have a spillage. This can easily happen when filling the tank or if you have a leak somewhere. Oil spillages can be potentially very dangerous as well as being an irritation to try to clean up. That is why it is a good idea to know how to deal with a spillage. It is essential that you do not disregard a spillage of oil and that you take care of it as soon as possible.

Do not try to clean up any large spills yourself as that should be left to the professionals but if the spill is small then you can probably look after it yourself. The first thing to do is to make the area safe by turning off anything that could produce a spark and extinguishing any flames; make sure that you never smoke anywhere near an oil spill.

You can scoop up the oil on a shovel after you have covered it with sawdust or cat litter. What you will be left with after this will be much easier to manage. To get rid of the rest of the oil you will need to use hot water and soap and completely scrub the area. It will be then necessary for you to get rid of any of the cleaning utensils that you have used and anything else that the oil has come into contact with. Use strong durable plastic bags to dispose of everything. Then you can go over the area again to make sure there is no oil left.

Always treat a heating oil spillage as an immediate threat that needs your attention. However if you do not know how to get rid of the oil or if there is too much then you should always get help from professionals who know what they are doing.

Getting the home heated up during winter can be very expensive. Gas and electricity are very expensive today, with no signs of prices coming down. Savvy people are changing over to oil as a home fuel though. After the changeover they have to make sure that the storage tanks are always full of Boilerjuice ensuring they can always heat their home in winter.
